Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Preparation for the Aśvamedha Sacrifice
Text 1.12.10
ततः साध्विति तद्वाक्यं ब्राह्मणाः प्रत्यपूजयन्।
वसिष्ठप्रमुखाः सर्वे पार्थिवस्य मुखाच्च्युतम्॥
tataḥ sādhv iti tad-vākyaṁ brāhmaṇāḥ pratyapūjayan
vasiṣṭha-pramukhāḥ sarve pārthivasya mukhāc cyutam
tataḥ sadhu iti = by saying, “good!”; tad-vākyam = the words; brāhmaṇāḥ = the brāhmaṇas; pratyapūjayan = congratulated; vasiṣṭha-pramukhāḥ = headed by Vasiṣṭha; sarve = all; pārthivasya = the king’s; mukhāt cyutam = from mouth.
All the brāhmaṇas headed by Vasiṣṭha congratulated the words from the king’s mouth by saying, “Good!”
NOTE. Those brāhmaṇas were learned in the basic principles of Vedic knowledge about the potency of proper performance of Vedic sacrifices, which is mentioned in Bhagavad-gītā (3.10) as:
saha-yajñāḥ prajāḥ sṛṣṭvā purovāca prajāpatiḥ
anena prasaviṣyadhvam eṣa vo ‘stv iṣṭa-kāma-dhuk
“In the beginning of creation, the Lord of all creatures sent forth generations of men and demigods, along with sacrifices for Viṣṇu, and blessed them by saying, ‘Be thou happy by this yajña [sacrifice] because its performance will bestow upon you everything desirable for living happily and achieving liberation.’”
