Chapter 14: The Aśvamedha Sacrifice
Text 1.14.56
ततः प्रीतेषु नृपतिर्द्विजेषु द्विजवत्सलः।
प्रणाममकरोत्तेषां हर्षपर्याकुलेक्षणः॥
tataḥ prīteṣu nṛ-patir dvijeṣu dvija-vatsalaḥ
praṇāmam akarot teṣāṁ harṣa-paryākulekṣaṇaḥ
tataḥ = having bestowed in charity as they desired; prīteṣu = were pleased; nṛ-patiḥ = the king; dvijeṣu = the twice-born; dvija-vatsalaḥ = was affectionate to them; praṇāmam = his respectful obeisances; akarot = he offered; teṣām = them; harṣa-paryākula-ikṣaṇaḥ and his eyes were brimming with joy.
Having bestowed in charity as they desired, the twice-born were pleased. The king was affectionate to them and his eyes were brimming with joy. He offered them his respectful obeisances.
