Chapter 23: The History of Kāmāśrama
Text 1.23.13
तस्य गात्रं हतं तत्र निर्दग्धस्य महात्मना।
अशरीरः कृतः कामः क्रोधाद्देवेश्वरेण हि॥
tasya gātraṁ hataṁ tatra nirdagdhasya mahātmanā
aśarīraḥ kṛtaḥ kāmaḥ krodhād deveśvareṇa hi
tasya = [thus] his; gātram = body; hatam = was destroyed; tatra = in that place; nirdagdhasya = he was burnt up; mahā-ātmanā = the greatly intelligent Śiva; aśarīraḥ = disembodied; kṛtaḥ = became; kāmaḥ = [as a result,] Kāma; krodhāt = due to his anger; deva-īśvareṇa hi = by that Lord of the devas.
In that place, he was burnt up by that Lord of the devas, the greatly intelligent Śiva, due to his anger. [Thus,] his body was destroyed. [As a result,] Kāma became disembodied.
