Chapter 29: The History of Siddhāśrama
Text 1.29.30
दानारक्ते ततः शुक्रे शुक्रं राजपुरोहितम्।
गृहीत्वा ताडयामास वैनतेयो महाबलः॥
dānārakte tataḥ śukre śukraṁ rāja-purohitam
gṛhītvā tāḍayām āsa vainateyo mahā-balaḥ
dāna-arakte tataḥ = when was unfavorable to Bali’s charity; śukre = Śukra; śukram = Śukra; rāja-purohitam = the royal priest; gṛhītvā = seized and; tāḍayām āsa = struck him; vainateyaḥ = Garuḍa; mahā-balaḥ = the greatly powerful.
When Śukra was unfavorable to Bali’s charity, the greatly powerful Garuḍa seized Śukra, the royal priest, and struck him.
