Chapter 32: The History of Kuśanābha and His Daughters
Text 1.32.17
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा वायोरक्लिष्टकर्मणः।
अपहास्य ततो वाक्यं कन्याशतमथाब्रवीत्॥
tasya tad vacanaṁ śrutvā vāyor akliṣṭa-karmaṇaḥ
apahāsya tato vākyaṁ kanyā-śatam athābravīt
tasya = of the demigod; tat = those; vacanam = words; śrutvā = hearing; vāyoḥ = Vāyu; akliṣṭa-karmaṇaḥ = of unobstructed endeavor; apahāsya = laughed [derisively]; tataḥ vākyam = the following words; kanyā-śatam = those hundred daughters; atha abravīt = and spoke.
Hearing those words of the demigod Vāyu of unobstructed endeavor, those hundred daughters laughed [derisively] and spoke the following words.1
1 Generally Vāyu’s endeavors are unobstructed and so he assumed that he will have his way now also.
