Canto 1 - Boyhood
Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 32: The History of Kuśanābha and His Daughters
Text 1.32.21

पिता हि प्रभुरस्माकं दैवतं परमं हि नः।
यस्य नो दास्यति पिता स नो भर्ता भविष्यति॥

pitā hi prabhur asmākaṁ daivataṁ paramaṁ hi naḥ
yasya
no dāsyati pitā sa no bhartā bhaviṣyati

pitā hi = our father; prabhuḥ = is master; asmākam = our; daivatam = deity; paramam hi = supreme; naḥ = our; yasya = whom; naḥ = our; dāsyati = gives us to; pitā = father; saḥ = he; naḥ = our; bhartā = husband; bhaviṣyati = will become.

Our father is our master, our supreme deity. He whom our father gives us to will become our husband.

This is an explanation of the previous verse.

NOTE. Śrīla Prabhupāda has noted that a woman “should be given protection by the father in her younger days, by the husband in her youth, and by the grown-up sons in her old age. This is proper social behavior according to the Manu-saṁhitā.” (Bhagavad-gītā 16.7 purport)
