Chapter 33: Kuśanābha’s Daughters marry Brahmadatta
Text 1.33.3
पितृमत्यः स्म भद्रं ते स्वच्छन्दे न वयं स्थिताः।
पितरं नो वृणीष्व त्वं यदि नो दास्यते तव॥
pitṛmatyaḥ sma bhadraṁ te svacchande na vayaṁ sthitāḥ
pitaraṁ no vṛṇīṣva tvaṁ yadi no dāsyate tava
pitṛmatyaḥ sma = [we told him:] we have a father; bhadram te = auspiciousness unto you; svacchande = independent to choose a husband; na vayam sthitāḥ = therefore, we are not; pitaram = father; naḥ = our; vṛṇīṣva tvam = so request; yadi = if; naḥ = us; dāsyate = he gives; tava = to you [then we will become yours].
[We told him:] We have a father. Therefore, we are not indepen-dent to choose a husband. So, request our father. If he gives us to you, then we will become yours. Auspiciousness unto you.
