Canto 1 - Boyhood
Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 33: Kuśanābha’s Daughters marry Brahmadatta
Text 1.33.6
क्षान्तं क्षमावतां पुत्र्यः कर्तव्यं सुमहत्कृतम्।
ऐकमत्यमुपागम्य कुलं चावेक्षितं मम॥
kṣāntaṁ kṣamāvatāṁ putryaḥ kartavyaṁ sumahat-kṛtam
aikamatyam upāgamya kulaṁ cāvekṣitaṁ mama
kṣāntam kṣamāvatām putryaḥ kartavyam = O daughters, people with forgiveness and tolerance, should tolerate; sumahat-kṛtam = you have done a great activity; aikamatyam upāgamya = with a single mind; kulam ca avekṣitam mama = you have acted in accordance with our dynasty.
O daughters, people with forgiveness and tolerance should tolerate. You have done a great activity. You have acted in accordance with our dynasty.
Being so tolerant in this situation is a great activity. It is implied that when a demigod pleads thus for marital union, to not be affected in mind is very difficult. And when he destroys one’s body, to not be angry at him is [also] extremely difficult to execute.
