तमुवाच ततो गङ्गा सर्वदेवपुरोहितम्।
अशक्ता धारणे देव तव तेजः समुद्धतम्।
दह्यमानाग्निना तेन सम्प्रव्यथितचेतना॥
tam uvāca tato gaṅgā sarva-deva-purohitam
aśaktā dhāraṇe deva tava tejaḥ samuddhatam
dahyamānāgninā tena sampravyathita-cetanā
tam = Agni; uvāca tataḥ = told; gaṅgā = Gaṅgā; sarva-deva-purohitam = the priest of the demigods; aśaktā = I cannot; dhāraṇe = bare it; deva = O deva; tava = your; tejaḥ = prowess; samuddhatam = has increased; dahyamānā agninā tena = burning with powerful semen brought by Agni; sampravyathita-cetanā = very distressed in mind.
Burning with the powerful semen brought by Agni, Gaṅgā, very distressed in mind, told Agni, the priest of the demigods: “O deva, your prowess has increased. I cannot bear it.”
