Chapter 39: Sagara’s Sons Search for the Sacrificial Horse

शूलैरशनिकल्पैश्च हलैश्चापि सुदारुणैः।
भिद्यमाना वसुमती ननाद रघुनन्दन॥
śūlair aśani-kalpaiś ca halaiś cāpi sudāruṇaiḥ
bhidyamānā vasumatī nanāda raghu-nandana
śūlaiḥ aśani-kalpaiḥ ca = by thunderboltlike tridents; halaiḥ ca api sudāruṇaiḥ = and terrible ploughs; bhidyamānā = upon being pierced; vasumatī = the earth; nanāda = roared; raghu-nandana = O beloved child of the Raghus.
O beloved child of the Raghus, the earth roared upon being pierced by thunderboltlike tridents and terrible ploughs.
