Chapter 39: Sagara’s Sons Search for the Sacrificial Horse
Text 1.39.5

तयोर्मध्ये प्रवृत्तोऽभूद्यज्ञः स पुरुषोत्तम।
स हि देशो नरव्याघ्र प्रशस्तो यज्नकर्मणि॥

tayor madhye pravṛtto ’bhūd yajñaḥ sa puruṣottama
sa
hi deśo nara-vyāghra praśasto yajna-karmaṇi

tayoḥ madhye = between those mountains; pravṛttaḥ abhūd = commenced; yajñaḥ saḥ = the yajña; puruṣottama = O Puruṣottama; saḥ hi deśaḥ = for that place; nara-vyāghra = O tiger among men; praśastaḥ = is celebrated; yajna-karmaṇi = for sacrificial performances.

O Puruṣottama, O tiger among men, the yajña commenced between those mountains, for that place is celebrated for sacrificial performances.

The area between the Himālaya and Vindhya is the pious land of Āryāvarta (Central India).[1]
