Chapter 39: Sagara’s Sons Search for the Sacrificial Horse
Text 1.39.9
अयं पर्वणि वेगेन यज्ञीयाश्वोऽपनीयते।
हर्तारं जहि काकुत्स्थ हयश्चैवोपनीयताम्॥
ayaṁ parvaṇi vegena yajñīyāśvo ’panīyate
hartāraṁ jahi kākutstha hayaś caivopanīyatām
ayam = this; parvaṇi = on this day of Ukthya; vegena = quickly; yajñīya-aśvaḥ = sacrificial horse; apanīyate = has been taken away; hartāram jahi = slay the thief; kākutstha = O descendant of Kakutstha; hayaśḥ = the horse; ca eva = and; upanīyatām = get back.
This sacrificial horse has been quickly taken away on this day of Ukthya. O descendant of Kakutstha, slay the thief and get back the horse.
