Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 40: Lord Kapila Punishes Sagara’s Sons
Text 1.40.3
कापिलं रूपमास्थाय धारयत्यनिशं धराम्।
तस्य कोपाग्निना दग्धा भविष्यन्ति नृपात्मजाः॥
kāpilaṁ rūpam āsthāya dhārayaty aniśaṁ dharām
tasya kopāgninā dagdhā bhaviṣyanti nṛpātmajāḥ
kāpilam rūpam āsthāya = in the form of Kapila; dhārayati aniśam dharām = who constantly maintains the earth; tasya kopa-agninā = by the anger of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; dagdhāḥ bhaviṣyanti = will be burnt; nṛpa-ātmajāḥ = the princes.
The princes will be burnt by the anger of the Supreme Personality of Godhead who constantly maintains the earth in the form of Kapila.
NOTE. In Bhagavad-gītā 10.26, the Supreme Personality of Godhead states—siddhānāṁ kapilo muniḥ: “Among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila.” Śrīla Prabhupāda has commented, “Amongst the perfect living entities, Kapila, the son of Devahūti, is a representative of Kṛṣṇa. He is considered an incarnation of Kṛṣṇa, and His philosophy is mentioned in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Later on another Kapila became famous, but his philosophy was atheistic. Thus there is a gulf of difference between them.”
