Chapter 46: Diti’s vow to kill Indra
Text 1.46.15
तमहं त्वत्कृते पुत्रं समाधास्ये जयोत्सुकम्।
त्रैलोक्यविजयं पुत्रं सह भोक्ष्यसि विज्वरः॥
tam ahaṁ tvat-kṛte putraṁ samādhāsye jayotsukam
trailokya-vijayaṁ putraṁ saha bhokṣyasi vijvaraḥ
tam = that; aham = I; tvat-kṛte = for your sake; putram = son; samādhāsye = will reconcile with you; jaya-utsukam = who will be eager for victory; trailokya-vijayam = the conquest of the three worlds; putram saha = with that son of mine; bhokṣyasi = you will enjoy; vijvaraḥ = free from distress.
For your sake, I will reconcile that son of mine, who will be eager for victory, with you. Free from distress, you will enjoy the conquest of the three worlds with that son of mine.
Samādhāsye (“I will reconcile”) indicates that Diti wanted to make her son free from enmity towards Indra and filled with affection towards him. She thought that the three worlds would be conquered by her son. She thought that by the infallible benediction of her husband, there would no obstacles to the birth of a son from her. Therefore, she was straightforward in informing Indra of the result of his menial services.
