Chapter 50: King Janaka Meets Viśvāmitra
Text 1.50.5

रामस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः।
निवेशमकरोद्देशे विविक्ते सलिलायुते॥

rāmasya vacanaṁ śrutvā viśvāmitro mahā-muniḥ
niveśam
akarod deśe vivikte salilāyute

rāmasya = Rāma’s; vacanam = words; śrutvā = upon hearing; viśvāmitraḥ = Viśvāmitra; mahā-muniḥ = the great sage; niveśam = a place to reside in; akarot = selected; deśe =spot; vivikte = at a secluded; salila-āyute = with facilities for water.

Upon hearing Rāma’s words, the great sage Viśvāmitra selected a place to reside in at a secluded spot with facilities for water.

Vivikte can also mean “pure”: viviktau pūta-vijanau (Amara).1

1 The verse would then mean, “Upon hearing Rāma’s words, the great sage Viśvāmitra selected a place to reside in at a pure spot with facilities for water.”
