Chapter 50: King Janaka Meets Viśvāmitra
Text 1.50.7
ऋत्विजोऽपि महात्मानस्त्वर्घ्यमादाय सत्वरम्।
विश्वामित्राय धर्मेण ददुर्मन्त्रपुरस्कृतम्॥
ṛtvijo ’pi mahātmānas tv arghyam ādāya satvaram
viśvāmitrāya dharmeṇa dadur mantra-puraskṛtam
ṛtvijaḥ = the sacrificial priests; api = also; mahā-ātmānaḥ tu = who were great souls; arghyam = arghya; ādāya = took; satvaram = quickly; viśvāmitrāya = to Viśvāmitra; dharmeṇa = in accordance with Vedic dharma; daduḥ = offered it; mantra-puraskṛtam = recited appropriate mantras and.
The sacrificial priests, who were great souls, also quickly took arghya, recited appropriate mantras and offered it to Viśvāmitra in accordance with Vedic dharma.
The reference to arghya indicates that they worshipped Viśvāmitra Muni according to the scriptural regulations for welcoming an uninvited guest. The recitation of mantras is a reference to the preparation of madhu-parka.
