Chapter 52: Śabalā, Vasiṣṭha’s Wish-fulfilling Cow
Text 1.52.20
एवमुक्तो महातेजा वसिष्ठो जपतां वरः।
आजुहाव ततः प्रीतः कल्माषीं धूतकल्मषाम्॥
evam ukto mahā-tejā vasiṣṭho japatāṁ varaḥ
ājuhāva tataḥ prītaḥ kalmāṣīṁ dhūta-kalmaṣām
evam uktaḥ = when he had said thus; mahā-tejāḥ = of great prowess; vasiṣṭhaḥ = Vasiṣṭha; japatām varaḥ = and the best of the mantra reciters; ājuhāva tataḥ prītaḥ = joyfully called; kalmāṣīm = his speckled cow; dhūta-kalmaṣām = capable of cleansing one’s sinful reactions.
When he had said thus, Vasiṣṭha of great prowess and the best of mantra reciters joyfully called his speckled cow capable of cleansing one’s sinful reactions.
