Chapter 55: King Viśvāmitra Obtains Divine Weapons
Text 1.55.14
किमर्थं तप्यसे राजन्ब्रूहि यत्ते विवक्षितम्।
वरोदोऽस्मि वरो यस्ते काङ्क्षितः सोऽभिधीयताम्॥
kimarthaṁ tapyase rājan brūhi yat te vivakṣitam
varodo ‘smi varo yas te kāṅkṣitaḥ so ‘bhidhīyatām
kimartham = why; tapyase = are you performing this penance; rājan = [Lord Śiva said:] O king; brūhi = tell me; yat te vivakṣitam = what is your desire; varadaḥ asmi = I will grant you a boon; varaḥ yaḥ te kāṅkṣitaḥ = what boon you desire from me; saḥ abhidhīyatām = tell me.
[Lord Śiva said:] O king, why are you performing this penance? What is your desire? Tell me. I will grant you a boon. Tell me what boon you desire from me.
