Chapter 6: The Residents of Ayodhyā
Text 1.6.22

काम्भोजविषये जातैर्बाह्लीकैश्च हयोत्तमैः।
वनायुजैर्नदीजैश्च पूर्णा हरिहयोत्तमैः॥

kāmbhoja-viṣaye jātair bāhlīkaiś ca hayottamaiḥ
vanāyujair nadījaiś ca pūrṇā hari-hayottamaiḥ

kāmbhoja-viṣaye = in Kāmbhoja; jātaiḥ = born; bāhlīkaiḥ ca = Bāhlīka; haya-uttamaiḥ = with excellent horses; vanāyujaiḥ = Vanāyu; nadījaiḥ = and Sindhu; ca = as well as; pūrṇā = the city was filled; hari-haya-uttamaiḥ = horses as good as Uccaiḥśravā.

The city was filled with excellent horses born in Kāmbhoja, Bāhlīka, Vanāyu and Sindhu as well as horses as good as Uccaiḥśravā.

Having described the infantry of his four-fold army, he now describes the prosperity of his army’s cavalry. Hari-hayottamaiḥ refers to horses that were as good as Indra’s horse, Uccaiḥśravā.
