Chapter 6: The Residents of Ayodhyā
Text 1.6.23-24

विन्ध्यपर्वतजैर्मत्तैः पूर्णा हैमवतैरपि।
मदान्वितैरतिबलैर्मातङ्गैः पर्वतोपमैः॥

ऐरावतकुलीनैश्च महापद्मकुलैस्तथा।
अञ्जनादपि निष्पन्नैर्वामनादपि च द्विपैः॥

vindhya-parvatajair mattaiḥ pūrṇā haimavatair api
madānvitair atibalair mātaṅgaiḥ parvatopamaiḥ

airāvata-kulīnaiś ca mahāpadma-kulais tathā
añjanād api niṣpannair vāmanād api ca dvipaiḥ

vindhya-parvatajaiḥ = born in the Vindhya Hills; mattaiḥ = intoxicated; pūrṇā = the city was filled; haimavataiḥ = Himālayas; api = and; mada-anvitaiḥ = proud; atibalaiḥ = of extreme strength; mātaṅgaiḥ = with elephants; parvata-upamaiḥ = as large as hills; airāvata-kulīnaiḥ = those born from Airāvata; ca = as well as; mahā-padma-kulaiḥ tathā = Mahāpadma; añjanāt api niṣpannaiḥ = Añjana; vāmanāt api ca dvipaiḥ = and Vāmana.

The city was filled with elephants of extreme strength, as large as hills, intoxicated, proud, born in the Vindhya Hills and Himālayas as well as those born from Airāvata, Mahāpadma, Añjana and Vāmana.

The author describes the prosperity of Daśaratha’s elephants in his army. Airāvata and the others named here are celestial elephants holding bhū-maṇḍala.
