Chapter 6: The Residents of Ayodhyā
Text 1.6.27
तां पुरीं स महातेजा राजा दशरथो महान्।
शशास शमितामित्रो नक्षत्राणीव चन्द्रमाः॥
tāṁ purīṁ sa mahā-tejā rājā daśaratho mahān
śaśāsa śamitāmitro nakṣatrāṇīva candramāḥ
tām = that; purīm = city; saḥ mahā-tejāḥ = of great prowess; rājā daśarathaḥ mahān = Mahārāja Daśaratha; śaśāsa = ruled over; śamita-amitraḥ = and the destroyer of his enemies; nakṣatrāṇi = the stars; iva = like; candramāḥ = the moon.
Mahārāja Daśaratha of great prowess and the destroyer of his enemies, ruled over that city like the moon ruled over the moon.
The author then points out that Daśaratha’s maintenance was a happy task.
