Chapter 6: The Residents of Ayodhyā
Text 1.6.7

नाल्पसन्निचयः कश्चिदासीत्तस्मिन्पुरोत्तमे।
कुटुम्बी यो ह्यसिद्धार्थोऽगवाश्वधनधान्यवान्॥

nālpa-sannicayaḥ kaścid āsīt tasmin purottame
kuṭumbī yo hy asiddhārtho ’gavāśva-dhana-dhānyavān

na = not; alpa-sannicayaḥ kaścit = had a small treasury; āsīt = there was; tasmin = in that; pura-uttame = best of cities; kuṭumbī = family man; yaḥ hi = who; asiddha-arthaḥ = or unfulfilled; agavāśva-dhana-dhānyavān = or without a cow or wealth or grains.

In that best of cities, there was no family man who had a small treasury, or without a cow or wealth or grains, or unfulfilled.

“Unfulfilled” here refers to one who had not attained pious credits, economic prosperity or sense enjoyment with wealth and so on. A family man is one has a mother, father, two daughters-in-law, two sons, two daughters, a wife and a guest [3].
