Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 60: Triśaṅku Blessed
Text 1.60.21
नक्षत्रमालामपरामसृजत्क्रोधमूर्च्छितः।
दक्षिणां दिशमास्थाय मुनिमध्ये महायशाः॥
nakṣatra-mālām aparām asṛjat krodha-mūrcchitaḥ
dakṣiṇāṁ diśam āsthāya muni-madhye mahā-yaśāḥ
nakṣatra-mālām aparām = another set of stars; asṛjat = created; krodha-mūrcchitaḥ = overwhelmed with anger; dakṣiṇām diśam āsthāya = in the south; muni-madhye = standing amidst the sages; mahā-yaśāḥ = Viśvāmitra of great fame.
Overwhelmed with anger, standing amidst the sages, Viśvāmitra of great fame created another set of stars in the south.
“Another set of stars” refers to 27 stars. Viśvāmitra wanted that Triśaṅku stand motionless in the south just as Dhruva stands motionless in the north. And just as the seven stars surround Dhruva, Viśvāmitra wanted the seven stars that he created to also surround Triśaṅku.
