Chapter 61: Śunaḥśepa Sold
Text 1.61.20
पिता ज्येष्ठमविक्रेयं माता चाह कनीयसम्।
विक्रीतं मध्यमं मन्ये राजन्पुत्रं नयस्व माम्॥
pitā jyeṣṭham avikreyaṁ mātā cāha kanīyasam
vikrītaṁ madhyamaṁ manye rājan putraṁ nayasva mām
pitā = my father says; jyeṣṭham = his eldest son; avikreyam = will not be sold; mātā = my mother; ca = and; āha = says; kanīyasam = her youngest son [would not be sold]; vikrītam = already sold off; madhyamam = I, the middle; manye = therefore, I consider that; rājan = O king; putram = son; nayasva = please take; mām = me.
My father says his eldest son will not be sold and my mother says her youngest son would not be sold. Therefore, I consider that I, the middle son, am already sold off. O king, please take me.
