Chapter 62: Śunaḥśepa Saved
Text 1.62.24

सदस्यानुमते राजा पवित्रकृतलक्षणम्।
पशुं रक्ताम्बरं कृत्वा यूपे तं समबन्धयत्॥

sadasyānumate rājā pavitra-kṛta-lakṣaṇam
paśuṁ
raktāmbaraṁ kṛtvā yūpe taṁ samabandhayat

sadasya anumate = with the permission of the supervisors and other priests of the sacrifice; rājā = the king; pavitra-kṛta-lakṣaṇam = marked Śunaḥśepa as an animal to be sacrificed by tying him up with darbha ropes; paśum = then he had him consecrated as a sacrificial animal; raktā-ambaram kṛtvā = and had him put on a red garment; yūpe = to the sacrificial pillar; tam = him; samabandhayat = he then had tied up.

With the permission of the supervisors and other priests of the sacrifice, the king marked Śunaḥśepa as an animal to be sacrificed by tying him up with darbha ropes. Then he had him consecrated as a sacrificial animal and had him put on a red garment. He then had him tied up to the sacrificial pillar.

Śunaḥśepa was consecreted as a sacrificial animal through saṁskāras such as the upākaraṇa.
