कालाग्निना यथा पूर्वं त्रैलोक्यं दह्यतेऽखिलम्।
देवराज्यं चिकीर्षेत दीयतामस्य यन्मतम्॥
kālāgninā yathā pūrvaṁ trailokyaṁ dahyate ‘khilam
deva-rājyaṁ cikīrṣeta dīyatām asya yan matam
kāla agninā = by the fire of devastation; yathā = just as; pūrvam = in the past at the time of universal dissolution; trailokyam = three worlds; dahyate = were burnt up [they will be burnt up by him]; akhilam = the entire; deva-rājyam = the kingdom of the devas; cikīrṣeta = even if he desires; dīyatām asya = give it to him; yat matam = give him what he wants.
Just as the entire three worlds were burnt up by the fire of devastation in the past at the time of universal dissolution, [they will be burnt up by him]. Give him what he wants. Even if he desires the kingdom of the devas, give it to him.
The celestials requested Lord Brahmā to give Viśvāmitra the status of a brahmarṣi, which is what he wanted.
