Chapter 66: The History of Lord Śiva’s bow
Text 1.66.17
तेषां वरयतां कन्यां सर्वेषां पृथिवीक्षिताम्।
वीर्यशुल्केति भगवन्न ददामि सुतामहम्॥
teṣāṁ varayatāṁ kanyāṁ sarveṣāṁ pṛthivī-kṣitām
vīrya-śulketi bhagavan na dadāmi sutām aham
teṣām = of the; varayatām = who had come seeking her; kanyām = my daughter; sarveṣām = to any; pṛthivī-kṣitām = kings on earth; vīrya-śulkā iti = because she can only be purchased with the price of strength; bhagavan = O powerful one; na = not; dadāmi = did give; sutām = my daughter; aham = I.
O powerful one, because she can only be purchased with the price of strength, I did not give my daughter to any of the kings on earth who had come seeking her.
