Chapter 7: King Daśaratha’s Ministers
Text 1.7.10
कुशला व्यवहारेषु सौहृदेषु परीक्षिताः।
प्राप्तकालं तु ते दण्डं धारयेयुः सुतेष्वपि॥
kuśalā vyavahāreṣu sauhṛdeṣu parīkṣitāḥ
prāpta-kālaṁ tu te daṇḍaṁ dhārayeyuḥ suteṣv api
kuśalāḥ = they were capable vyavahāreṣu = in adjudication; sauhṛdeṣu = in relationship with their well-wishers; parīkṣitāḥ = well examined by the king; prāpta-kālam tu = when their time had arrived; te = those ministers; daṇḍam = punishment; dhārayeyuḥ = would inflict; api = even suteṣu = on their sons.
They were capable in adjudication, well examined by the king in relationship with their well-wishers. Those ministers would inflict punishment even on their sons when their time had arrived.
“When their time had arrived” means “when their sons were proven to be guilty.”
