Chapter 70: Rāma’s Noble Lineage
Text 1.70.42
अम्बरीषस्य पुत्रोऽभून्नहुषः पृथिवीपतिः।
नहुषस्य ययातिश्च नाभागस्तु ययातिजः॥
ambarīṣasya putro’bhūn nahuṣaḥ pṛthivī-patiḥ
nahuṣasya yayātiś ca nābhāgas tu yayātijaḥ
ambarīṣasya = Ambarīṣa’s; putraḥ = son; abhūn = was; nahuṣaḥ = Nahuṣa; pṛthivī-patiḥ = the Lord of earth; nahuṣasya yayātiḥ ca = Nahuṣa’s son was Yayāti; nābhāgaḥ tu yayātijaḥ = and Yayāti’s son was Nābhāga.
Ambarīṣa’s son was Nahuṣa, the Lord of earth. Nahuṣa’s son was Yayāti and Yayāti’s son was Nābhāga.
This Nahuṣa and Yayāti are different from their namesakes in the Candra-vaṁśa (the dynasty stemming from Candra).
There is a difference in the sequence of names [of these lineages] in the Purāṇas. It should be known that in different kalpas (different days of Brahmā), different sequences of such names occur.
