Chapter 71: Sītā’s Noble Lineage
Text 1.71.18
तस्याप्रदानान्ब्रह्मर्षे युद्धमासीन्मया सह।
स हतोऽभिमुखो राजा सुधन्वा तु मया रणे॥
tasyāpradānān brahma-rṣe yuddham āsīn mayā saha
sa hato ’bhimukho rājā sudhanvā tu mayā raṇe
tasya = him; apradānāt = because of not giving [either of them]; brahma-rṣe = O brahmarṣi; yuddham āsīt = there was a war; mayā saha = between him and me; saḥ = he; hataḥ = was killed; abhimukhaḥ = when encountered me; rājā = King; sudhanvā = Sudhanvā; tu = but; mayā = by me; raṇe = in battle.
O brahmarṣi, because of not giving him [either of them], there was a war between him and me. But King Sudhanvā was killed by me when he encountered me in battle.
