Canto 1 - Boyhood
Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 73: The Grand Wedding of Sītā and Rāma
Text 1.73.37

लक्ष्मणागच्छ भद्रं ते ऊर्मिलामुद्यतां मया।
प्रतीच्छ पाणिं गृह्णीष्व मा भूत्कालस्य पर्ययः॥

lakṣmaṇāgaccha bhadraṁ te ūrmilām udyatāṁ mayā
pratīccha
pāṇiṁ gṛhṇīṣva bhūt kālasya paryayaḥ

lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; agaccha = come; bhadram te = may there be auspiciousness unto You; ūrmilām udyatām mayā pratīccha = accept Ūrmilā I have decided to give her to You; pāṇim gṛhṇīṣva = accept her hand; bhūt kālasya paryayaḥ = don’t delay.

Lakṣmaṇa, come! May there be auspiciousness unto You. Accept Ūrmilā. I have decided to give her to You. Accept her hand. Don’t delay.

Because Lakṣmaṇa and Bharata are from different mothers, Lakṣmaṇa’s wedding prior to Bharata is not wrong according to the Smṛti.[5]
