कुमाराश्च महात्मानो वीर्येणाप्रतिमा भुवि।
कृतदाराः कृतास्त्राश्च सधनाः ससुहृज्जनाः॥
शुश्रूषमाणाः पितरं वर्तयन्ति नरर्षभाः।
काले काले तु नीतिज्ञास्तोषयन्तो गुरुं गुणैः॥
kumārāś ca mahātmāno vīryeṇāpratimā bhuvi
kṛta-dārāḥ kṛtāstrāś ca sadhanāḥ sasuhṛj-janāḥ
śuśrūṣamāṇāḥ pitaraṁ vartayanti nara-rṣabhāḥ
kāle kāle tu nītijñās toṣayanto guruṁ guṇaiḥ
kumārāḥ ca = and Daśaratha’s boys; mahā-ātmānaḥ = were great souls; vīryeṇa = in prowess; apratimāḥ = unrivalled; bhuvi = on earth; kṛta-dārāḥ = they were married; kṛta-astrāḥ ca = they had been trained in weapons; sadhanāḥ = they had wealth; sasuhṛj-janāḥ = and were surrounded by Their well-wishers; śuśrūṣamāṇāḥ = while rendering menial services to him; pitaram = and father; vartayanti = carried out his orders; nara-rṣabhāḥ = those princes; kāle kāle tu = from time to time; nītijñāḥ = who knew artha-śāstra (the scriptural science of governance); toṣayantaḥ = satisfying; gurum = Their authority; guṇaiḥ = by Their auspicious qualities.
And Daśaratha’s boys were great souls, unrivalled in prowess on earth. They were married, They had been trained in weapons, They had wealth and were surrounded by Their well-wishers. From time to time, those princes who knew artha-śāstra (the scriptural science of governance), satisfying Their authority and father by Their auspicious qualities, carried out his orders while rendering menial services to him.
