Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 4: Rāma Buries Virādha
Text 3.4.2

एष दाशरथी रामः सत्यवाञ्छीलवाञ्छुचिः।
रक्षसा रौद्ररूपेण ह्रियते सहलक्ष्मणः॥

eṣa dāśarathī rāmaḥ satyavāñ chīlavāñ chuciḥ
rakṣasā raudra-rūpeṇa hriyate saha-lakṣmaṇaḥ

eṣaḥ = this; dāśarathī = son of Daśaratha; rāmaḥ = Rāma; satyavān = is truthful; śīlavān = and endowed with good conduct; śuciḥ = and pure; rakṣasā = by the rākṣasa; raudra-rūpeṇa = of terrifying appearance; hriyate = are being carried off; saha-lakṣmaṇaḥ = and Lakṣmaṇa.

Rāma is truthful, and endowed with good conduct and pure. This son of Daśaratha and Lakṣmaṇa are being carried off by a rākṣasa whose appearance is terrifying.

Sītā-devī cries out to Providence in this verse.

Rāma is pure, that is, He is honest [even] in thought.1

In the next verse, she cries out to Virādha.
