Chapter 4: Rāma Buries Virādha
Text 3.4.1
ह्रियमाणौ तु तौ दृष्ट्वा वैदेही रामलक्ष्मणौ।
उच्चैःस्वरेण चुक्रोश प्रगृह्य सुमहाभुजौ॥
hriyamāṇau tu tau dṛṣṭvā vaidehī rāma-lakṣmaṇau
uccaiḥ-svareṇa cukrośa pragṛhya sumahā-bhujau
hriyamāṇau tu tau = and abducting; dṛṣṭvā = as soon as saw; vaidehī = Vaidehī; rāma-lakṣmaṇau = Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa; uccaiḥ-svareṇa = in a loud voice; cukrośa = she cried; pragṛhya = [Virādha] grabbing; sumahā-bhujau = whose arms were very strong.
As soon as Vaidehī saw [Virādha] grabbing and abducting Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, whose arms were very strong, she cried out in a loud voice.
The author begins [this chapter] to state the result of Virādha’s carrying the Supreme Person.
Though Vaidehī knows about Rāma’s superhuman deeds, she became overwhelmed and cried out of excessive affection.
