Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision

अहोऽस्मि परमप्रीतः प्रभावश्चातुलो मम।
यन्मे ज्येष्ठं प्रियं पुत्रं यौवराज्यस्थमिच्छथ॥
aho ’smi parama-prītaḥ prabhāvaś cātulo mama
yan me jyeṣṭhaṁ priyaṁ putraṁ yauvarājyastham icchatha
aho = oh; asmi = [so] I am; parama-prītaḥ = extremely pleased; prabhāvaḥ = influence; ca = and; atulaḥ = is incomparable; mama = [I understand that] my; yat = because; me = my; jyeṣṭham = eldest; priyam = and dear; putram = son Rāma; yauvarājyastham = to be installed as the crown prince; icchatha = you want.
Oh, because you want my eldest and dear son Rāma to be installed as the crown prince, [I understand that] my influence is incomparable and [so] I am extremely pleased.
