Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.3
इति प्रत्यर्च्य तान्राजा ब्राह्मणानिदमब्रवीत्।
वसिष्ठं वामदेवं च तेषामेवोपशृण्वताम्॥
iti pratyarcya tān rājā brāhmaṇān idam abravīt
vasiṣṭhaṁ vāmadevaṁ ca teṣām evopaśṛṇvatām
iti = thus; pratyarcya = reciprocated and then; tān = the; rājā = King Daśaratha; brāhmaṇān = brāhmaṇas; idam = the following; abravīt = he spoke; vasiṣṭham = to Vasiṣṭha; vāmadevam = Vāmadeva; ca = and; teṣām eva = while they; upaśṛṇvatām = were hearing him.
King Daśaratha thus reciprocated by honoring the brāhmaṇas and then, while they were hearing him, he spoke the following to Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva.
With sweet words the king honored those brāhmaṇas who had beseeched him to coronate Rāma as the crown prince.
