राज्ञस्तूपरते वाक्ये जनघोषो महानभूत्।
शनैस्तस्मिन्प्रशान्ते च जनघोषे जनाधिपः।
वसिष्ठं मुनिशार्दूलं राजा वचनमब्रवीत्॥
rājñas tūparate vākye jana-ghoṣo mahān abhūt
śanais tasmin praśānte ca jana-ghoṣe janādhipaḥ
vasiṣṭhaṁ muni-śārdūlaṁ rājā vacanam abravīt
rājñaḥ tu = when the king; uparate = finished; vākye = speaking; jana-ghoṣaḥ = noise of jubilation among the people; mahān = a great; abhūt = there was; śanaiḥ = gradually; tasmin praśānte ca = subsided; jana-ghoṣe = when their noise; jana-adhipaḥ = the ruler of men; vasiṣṭham = to Vasiṣṭha; muni-śārdūlam = the tiger among sages; rājā = King Daśaratha; vacanam = the following words; abravīt = spoke.
When the king finished speaking, there was a great noise of jubilation among the people. When that noise gradually subsided, the ruler of men, King Daśaratha, spoke the following words to Vasiṣṭha, the tiger among sages.
“Vasiṣṭha” includes Vāmadeva for texts 3 and 20 refer to both of them. [In other words, Daśaratha spoke the following words to Vasiṣṭha and Vāmadeva.] Because Vasiṣṭha is the chief priest [among the two], he has been referred to here.
There was a great noise of jubilation among the people [in the assembly] because they thought, “Our cherished desire and long-term prayer that Rāma be coronated as the crown prince is fulfilled at last!”
