Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.4

चैत्रः श्रीमानयं मासः पुण्यः पुष्पितकाननः।
यौवराज्याय रामस्य सर्वमेवोपकल्प्यताम्॥

caitraḥ śrīmān ayaṁ māsaḥ puṇyaḥ puṣpita-kānanaḥ
yauvarājyāya rāmasya sarvam evopakalpyatām

caitraḥ = of Caitra; śrīmān = is the beautiful; ayaṁ = now; māsaḥ = month; puṇyaḥ = and pious; puṣpita-kānanaḥ = when the forests are flowering; yauvarājyāya = for coronating as the crown prince; rāmasya = Rāma; sarvam eva = all the ingredients; upakalpyatām = please arrange for.

Now is the beautiful and pious month of Caitra when the forests are flowering. Please arrange for all the ingredients for coronating Rāma as the crown prince.

.

With boundless regard for the coronation of Rāma, Daśaratha glorified the time appropriate to conduct it in this verse.

Just as Rāma is superior to others, the month of Caitra is superior to other months. Just as Rāma pleases everyone, the month of Caitra pleases everyone. This month is also at the time when there is a desire for the coronation to take place. This month was when He incarnated and this is the month when He [can be] coronated.

Puṇyaḥ indicates that the month of Caitra was pleasing and that it enhanced one’s piety. Puṣpita-kānanaḥ indicates that while Daśaratha’s persons labor to decorate the city, the forest will personally decorate itself with flowers. While Rāma wears a golden helmet, the forest will wear a crown of flowers.
