Chapter 4: Daśaratha’s Anxiety About Coronating Rāma
Text 2.4.31
प्रागेव चागता तत्र सुमित्रा लक्ष्मणस्तदा।
सीता चानायिता श्रुत्वा प्रियं रामाभिषेचनम्॥
prāg eva cāgatā tatra sumitrā lakṣmaṇas tadā
sītā cānāyitā śrutvā priyaṁ rāmābhiṣecanam
prāk eva ca = beforehand; āgatā = had arrived; tatra = there; sumitrā = Sumitrā; lakṣmaṇaḥ = and Lakṣmaṇa; tadā sītā = Sītā; ca = and; ānāyitā = had also been brought there; śrutvā = upon hearing; priyam = the pleasant [news concerning]; rāma-abhiṣecanam = Rāma’s coronation.
Upon hearing about the pleasant [news concerning] Rāma’s coronation, Sumitrā and Lakṣmaṇa had arrived there beforehand, and Sītā had also been brought there.
Sumitrā had arrived there before Rāma’s arrival, upon hearing about the pleasant [news concerning] Rāma’s coronation. Lakṣmaṇa had arrived along with Sumitrā. Sītā, being dependent, did not come on her own. She was brought there by maidservants.
