Text 2.4.32-33

तस्मिन्काले हि कौसल्या तस्थावामीलितेक्षणा।
सुमित्रयान्वास्यमाना सीतया लक्ष्मणेन च॥

tasmin kāle hi kausalyā tasthāv āmīlitekṣaṇā
sumitrayānvāsyamānā sītayā lakṣmaṇena ca

śrutvā puṣyeṇa putrasya yauvarājyābhiṣecanam
prāṇāyāmena puruṣaṁ dhyāyamānā janārdanam

tasmin kāle hi = then; kausalyā = Kausalyā; tasthau = while keeping; āmilita-īkṣaṇā = her eyes closed; sumitrayā = Sumitrā; anvāsyamānā = was sitting; sītayā = Sītā; lakṣmaṇena = Lakṣmaṇa; ca = and; śrutvā = having heard; puṣyeṇa = under the Puṣya nakṣatra; putrasya = about her son’s; yauvarājya-abhiṣecanam = coronation as the crown prince; prāṇāyāmena = after performing prāṇāyāma; puruṣam = on Lord; dhyāyamānā = she was meditating; janārdanam = Janārdana.

Having heard about her son’s coronation as the crown prince under the Puṣya nakṣatra, Kausalyā was sitting along with Sumitrā, Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa. While keeping her eyes closed, she was then meditating on Lord Janārdana after performing prāṇāyāma.

Kausalyā meditated upon Nārāyaṇa, the Puruṣa described as such in the Puruṣa-sūkta.

GLOSS. Puruṣam indicates the Lord [Kausalyā was meditating upon] was complete with the six qualities, [that is, the six opulences]. Janārdanam indicates that He destroys [the process of repeated] birth and that He is unborn.
