Chapter 4: Daśaratha’s Anxiety About Coronating Rāma
Text 2.4.38
एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु कौसल्या चिरकालाभिकाङ्क्षितम्।
हर्षबाष्पकलं वाक्यमिदं राममभाषत॥
etac chrutvā tu kausalyā cira-kālābhikāṅkṣitam
harṣa-bāṣpa-kalaṁ vākyam idaṁ rāmam abhāṣata
etat = this; srutvā = hearing; tu kausalyā = Kausalyā; cira-kālāḥ abhikāṅkṣitam = that she had hankered for a long time; harṣa-bāṣpa-kalam = while shedding tears of joy; vākyam idam = the following indistinct and sweet words; rāmam = to Rāma; abhāṣata = slightly spoke.
Hearing this that she had hankered for a long time, Kausalyā slightly spoke the following indistinct and sweet words to Rāma while shedding tears of joy.
