Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 4: Daśaratha’s Anxiety About Coronating Rāma
Text 2.4.40

कल्याणे बत नक्षत्रे मयि जातोऽसि पुत्रक।
येन त्वया दशरथो गुणैराराधितः पिता॥

kalyāṇe bata nakṣatre mayi jāto ’si putraka
yena tvayā daśaratho guṇair ārādhitaḥ pitā

kalyāṇe = under a very auspicious; bata = ah; nakṣatre = nakṣatra; mayi = to me; jātaḥ asi = were born; putraka = my child; yena tvayā = because of You who; daśarathaḥ = King Daśaratha; guṇaiḥ = with auspicious qualities; ārādhitaḥ = has been honored; pitā = Your father.

Ah, my child, Your father King Daśaratha has been honored with auspicious qualities because of You who were born to me under a very auspicious nakṣatra.

Bata indicates that Kausalyā was delighted to speak this 2. In some manuscripts, mayā appears instead of mayi. [The meaning of the verse is the same.]

1 Vaidehī is a name of Sītā-devī.
