Chapter 5: Vasiṣṭha Prepares Rāma for the Coronation
Text 2.5.1
सन्दिश्य रामं नृपतिः श्वो भाविन्यभिषेचने।
पुरोहितं समाहूय वसिष्ठं चेदमब्रवीत्॥
sandiśya rāmaṁ nṛpatiḥ śvo bhāviny abhiṣecane
purohitaṁ samāhūya vasiṣṭhaṁ cedam abravīt
sandiśya = having instructed; rāmam = Śrī Rāma; nṛpatiḥ = the king; śvaḥ = the next day; bhāvini = due to take place; abhiṣecane = about the coronation ceremony; purohitam = his priest; samāhūya = called for; vasiṣṭham = Vasiṣṭha; ca = and; idam = the following; abravīt = spoke.
Having instructed Śrī Rāma about the coronation ceremony due to take place the next day, the king called for his priest Vasiṣṭha and spoke the following.
Because the vow of fasting [that Rāma had to observe] required appropriate mantras to be chanted by the priest and so on, Daśaratha sent his priest [to Rāma for this purpose]. This is described in this chapter.
The king had instructed Śrī Rāma about the coronation ceremony, that is, he had instructed Him to carry out the vow of fasting and so on [in preparation to the coronation ceremony].
