Chapter 6: The Residents of Kosala Prepare to Celebrate Rāma’s Coronation
Text 2.6.21
अहो महात्मा राजायमिक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनः।
ज्ञात्वा यो वृद्धमात्मानं रामं राज्येऽभिषेक्ष्यति॥
aho mahātmā rājāyam ikṣvāku-kula-nandanaḥ
jñātvā yo vṛddham ātmānaṁ rāmaṁ rājye ’bhiṣekṣyati
aho = oh; mahā-ātmā = is a great soul; rājā = king; ayam = this; ikṣvāku-kula-nandanaḥ = the beloved child of the Ikṣvāku dynasty; jñātvā = has understood; yaḥ = because he; vṛddham = is getting old; ātmānam = that he; rāmam = Rāma; rājye = as the crown prince of the kingdom; abhiṣekṣyati = He will coronate.
Oh, this king, the beloved child of the Ikṣvāku dynasty, is a great soul. He will coronate Rāma as the crown prince of the kingdom because he has understood that he is getting old.
