Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 6: The Residents of Kosala Prepare to Celebrate Rāma’s Coronation
Text 2.6.26

ते तु दिग्भ्यः पुरीं प्राप्ता द्रष्टुं रामाभिषेचनम्।
रामस्य पूरयामासुः पुरीं जानपदा जनाः॥

te tu digbhyaḥ purīṁ prāptā draṣṭuṁ rāmābhiṣecanam
rāmasya pūrayām āsuḥ purīṁ jānapadā janāḥ

te tu = they; digbhyaḥ = from all directions; purīm = at the city; prāptāḥ = arrived; draṣṭum = to see; rāma-abhiṣecanam = Rāma’s coronation ceremony; rāmasya = Rāma’s; pūrayām āsuḥ = filled up; purīm = city; jānapadāḥ = from the countryside; janāḥ = [indeed] people.

They arrived at the city from all directions to see Rāma’s
coronation ceremony. [Indeed,] people from the countryside filled up Rāma’s city.

The sage Vālmīki refers to [Ayodhyā] as Rāma’s city because King Daśaratha had promised the previous day in the presence of all that Rāma would be coronated [as the crown prince].
