Text 2.7.30

सा प्राप्तकालं कैकेयि क्षिप्रं कुरु हितं तव।
त्रायस्व पुत्रमात्मानं मां च विस्मयदर्शने॥

sā prāpta-kālaṁ kaikeyi kṣipraṁ kuru hitaṁ tava
trāyasva putram ātmānaṁ māṁ ca vismaya-darśane

1 prāpta-kālam = and at the right time; kaikeyi = Kaikeyī; kṣipram = quickly; kuru = do; hitam = good; tava = to yourself; trāyasva = save; putram = your son; ātmānam = yourself; mām = me; ca = and; vismaya-darśane = O one of astonishing appearance.

1. Technical note: sā kuru.

Kaikeyī, do good to yourself quickly and at the right time. O one of astonishing appearance, save your son, yourself and me.1

1. Note that Mantharā first of all mentions that Kaikeyī should save her son. This was Kaikeyī’s greatest weakness and so Mantharā successfully exploited it in her venture.

Vismaya-darśane (“O one of astonishing appearance”) indicates that Kaikeyī should use her beauty to bring Daśaratha under her control for [her own] good. It also indicates that Kaikeyī was endowed with astonishing knowledge, that is, she was intelligent to understand what should be done at the appropriate time.

1 Technical note: sā kuru.

1 Note that Mantharā first of all mentions that Kaikeyī should save her son. This was Kaikeyī’s greatest weakness and so Mantharā successfully exploited it in her venture.
