Chapter 9: Kaikeyī Convinced by Mantharā
Text 2.9.35
प्राप्तकालं तु ते मन्ये राजानं वीतसाध्वसा।
रामाभिषेकसम्भारान्निगृह्य विनिवर्तय॥
prāpta-kālaṁ tu te manye rājānaṁ vīta-sādhvasā
rāmābhiṣeka-sambhārān nigṛhya vinivartaya
prāpta-kālam tu = this is the right time; te = for you; manye = I think that; rājānam = the king; vīta-sādhvasā = fearlessly; rāma-abhiṣeka-sambhārāt = from [his] preparations for Rāma’s coronation; nigṛhya = stop and; vinivartaya = reverse the situation.
I think that this is the right time for you. Fearlessly stop the king from [his] preparations for Rāma’s coronation and reverse the situation.
Mantharā thought that this was the time that Kaikeyī was waiting for to ask [Daśaratha for the two boons]. Therefore, Kaikeyī should prevent [Rāma’s coronation].
