Chapter 9: Kaikeyī Convinced by Mantharā
Text 2.9.43
जघनं तव निर्घुष्टं रशनादमशोभितम्।
जङ्घे भृशमुपन्यस्ते पादौ चाप्ययतावुभौ॥
jaghanaṁ tava nirghuṣṭaṁ raśanā-dāma-śobhitam
jaṅghe bhṛśam upanyaste pādau cāpyāyatāv ubhau
jaghanam = buttocks; tava = your; nirghuṣṭam = makes a [pleasant] sound; raśanā-dāma-śobhitam = beautified by a rope around your belly; jaṅghe = your legs; bhṛśam = are very; upanyaste = contiguous; pādau ca = your feet; āpyāyatau ubhau = are long.
Your buttocks, beautified by a rope around your belly, makes a [pleasant] sound.1 Your legs are very contiguous. Your feet are long.
1 Mantharā’s rope around the belly had small bells which produced a pleasant sound.
Upanyaste also indicates that [Kaikeyī suggested to Mantharā that] her legs were very beautiful.
