Chapter 9: Kaikeyī Convinced by Mantharā
Text 2.9.49
मुखे च तिलकं चित्रं जातरूपमयं शुभम्।
कारयिष्यामि ते कुब्जे शुभान्याभरणानि च॥
mukhe ca tilakaṁ citraṁ jāta-rūpamayaṁ śubham
kārayiṣyāmi te kubje śubhāny ābharaṇāni ca
mukhe ca = on your forehead; tilakam = tilaka ornament; citram = with a colorful; jāta-rūpamayam = golden; śubham = and beautiful; kārayiṣyāmi = I will have [adorned]; te = you; kubje = O hunchback; śubhāni = other beautiful; ābharaṇāni = ornaments [on other parts of your body]; ca = as well as.
O hunchback, I will have you [adorned] with a colorful, golden and beautiful tilaka ornament on your forehead as well as other beautiful ornaments [on other parts of your body].
Kaikeyī wanted to adorn Mantharā’s forehead with an ornament that was colorful because of being inlaid with many jewels.
