तथा प्रोत्साहिता देवी गत्वा मन्थरया सह।
क्रोधागारं विशालाक्षी सौभाग्यमदगर्विता॥
अनेकशतसाहस्रं मुक्ताहारं वराङ्गना।
अवमुच्य वरार्हाणि शुभान्याभरणानि च॥
ततो हेमोपमा तत्र कुब्जावाक्यवशं गता।
संविश्य भूमौ कैकेयी मन्थरामिदमब्रवीत्॥
tathā protsāhitā devī gatvā mantharayā saha
krodhāgāraṁ viśālākṣī saubhāgya-mada-garvitā
aneka-śata-sāhasraṁ muktāhāraṁ varāṅganā
avamucya varārhāṇi śubhāny ābharaṇāni ca
tato hemopamā tatra kubjā-vākya-vaśaṁ gatā
saṁviśya bhūmau kaikeyī mantharām idam abravīt
tathā = thus; protsāhitā = instigated; devī = the queen; gatvā = went; mantharayā = Mantharā; saha = with; krodha-āgāram = to the house of anger; viśāla-akṣī = wide-eyed Kaikeyī; saubhāgya-mada-garvitā = was arrogant and proud because of her good fortune; aneka-śata-sāhasram = worth several hundred thousand [gold coins]; muktā-hāram = her pearl necklace; vara-aṅganā = that beautiful woman; avamucya = removed; vara-arhāṇi = and [other] very costly; śubhāni = attractive; ābharaṇāni = ornaments; ca = and; tataḥ = then; hema-upamā = of golden complexion; tatra = there; kubjā-
vākya-vaśam = under the control of the hunchback’s words; gatā = having come; saṁviśya = lay and; bhūmau = on the floor; kaikeyī = Kaikeyī; mantharām = to Mantharā; idam = the following; abravīt = spoke.
Instigated thus, the queen went to the house of anger with Mantharā. Wide-eyed Kaikeyī was arrogant and proud because of her good fortune. That beautiful woman removed her pearl necklace worth several hundred thousand [gold coins] and [other] very costly and attractive ornaments. Then, having come under the control of the hunchback’s words, Kaikeyī of golden complexion lay on the floor there and spoke to Mantharā the following.
Aneka-śata-sāhasram indicates that Kaikeyī’s pearl necklace was very valuable.
